i might’ve gone to more parties if i knew they were going to be the last party i would ever go to
through some incredibly uninteresting set of circumstances, i managed to not really do much – i think “any” – makossa parties in 2019. if it’s possible to somehow become a homebody during summer, i became a little bit of one that year.
and then through an incredibly “interesting” set of circumstances, i became a homebody for another two years.
c’est la fuckin’ vie, y’all
but days pass and months pass, and while it might have felt like the day party was something that was becoming a once-rumored occurrence, lo and behold: the summer of 2022 came around. and with that, enough of the public decided that it was relatively safe to be around people – a lot of people – for right or for wrong.
so then the message that makossa is a thing again. oh. wow.
what is makossa, for the uninitiated?
so, the good folks at dj collective rare form have been throwing rooftop dj parties in brooklyn under the name makossa for quite a number of years now. the parties have been here and there over the years, but now seem to have settled on their current location at “our wicked lady” over in bushwick for the last few.
which is great… it’s always great to be able to drop in on bushwick now and then (especially considering it’s all of a ten-minute walk away from where i live… i hear the new york times has dubbed it the next big thing)

me? i’m finding i need to re-acclimate myself to how parties even “work” nowadays. like, i got there WELL ahead of when i even needed to. which i could chalk up to be an eternal barbadian office worker, but i want to more put on simply not leaving the house for like 18 months.
it’ll make you forget a thing or two.
